In this post we are highlighting our Shiatsu Massage. Shiatsu in Japanese means “finger pressure”. This massage uses finger and palm pressure, mixed with other techniques and is often paired with light stretching. This allows for shiatsu massage to reach muscles and areas that unique to shiatsu.
Is Shiatsu right for me?
If you enjoy those massage chairs and cushions that feature a “rolling” massage technique, then chances are you will enjoy a shiatsu massage. The pressure can be more or less firm, depending on your preference, so be sure to talk to your therapist. If you feel particularly stiff, the stretching aspect of shiatsu may be beneficial.
How should I prepare for shiatsu?
Arrive early to your appointment. This will give you enough time to relax, and to fill out your paperwork. Hydrate yourself before and after therapy… soreness is often a result of dehydration. Leave your cell phone on silent, so that you can enjoy your massage and truly be in the moment.
Massage is a wonderful way to pamper yourself, or to simply keep your body in tune with regular self care. Ask your therapist about shiatsu, and how it might benefit you and the needs of your body.
